Blaise Heltai
Founder and principal of genus2 Technology, Blaise is also a Partner at NewVantage Partners where he focuses on the applications of technology to business transformation. His newest interests are driven by the Big Data phenomenon, untangling the hype from the practical realties and applications and focusing on recent Analytic and Computing advances that will actually imapct many organizations.
Blaise was previously an executive at the FleetBoston Financial Group, where, as corporate eCatalyst he led the company through a fundamental transformation of e-enablement, integration and rationalization of Internet initiatives for all lines of business, globally. He has also led CRM, customer data analysis, direct marketing, market research, and Innovation functions for Fleet and Bank of America.
Blaise was CEO of fileTRUST, which produced a secure online document storage and sharing service.
He has held positions at Bell Laboratories where he led efforts ranging from assessing demand for new telecom services to managing field trials or new services. He often acted as the interpreter for Bell Labs, translating from the language of scientists and engineers (who think about how) into the language of the marketplace (which is more interested in what and why). His consequent move as an executive on the “business side” of AT&T began by developing and managing early efforts in Interactive TV and online services and continued as he led a business unit within AT&T Consumer Products (later Lucent) that developed next-generation devices such as smart set-top boxes and PC phones.
His years a Bell Labs started him on a path that continues to this day: combining a real understanding of technology evolution, the environmental and economic context and, importantly, consumer behavior to arrive at predictions and actionable plans.
Blaise has served on the board of directors of MECA Software, Integrion and numerous non-profits. He has been on the advisory boards of S1 Corporation, PostX, and FTVentures and served as the Chairman of the Massachusetts Innovation and Technology Exchange (MITX). He also served on the National Academy of Science e-government Committee and on the Future Systems Advisory Panel for the Social Security Administration, on the National Academies committee on the future of Medicare and Medicaid Services, and on the Advisory Board for the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He received his undergraduate degree from the College of Charleston and his Ph.D. in Mathematics (with a dissertation that he no longer understands) from Stony Brook University.
A fluid but oddly stable collection of amazing people who have worked with Blaise for 5-20 years.
